Josh,

I'm glad you are enjoying the site.

To reduce the size of your images you need image editing software. Just about every computer comes with some basic software that allows you to resize images. 640x480 is about perfect. You can also lower the JPG quality settings usually found under "options" when you are in the "SAVE" dialog. You can take it down to about 40 without any noticable loss of quality. That will make the file sizes much smaller. I have a decent connection however it seemed so much faster to upload tiny images (<40K.)

If you don't have software, I highly reccomend ACDSee, it can be found at ACDsee.com. I have been using it to browse and organize photos for over 5 years. I have thousands of images archived. It has some powerful organizing/databasing tools so you can categorize all your photos and browse/search by category, by date, by location, etc. The newest version lets you drag and drop images into a "clip board" then do a batch resize, resizing all the images in your selection. It is pretty slick, fast, and easy to use.

Don't worry about the size of your site. You know how cheap hard drive space is right? You can build as many pages and publish as many photos as you want.

I recommend adding some sub-categories on your main page. It makes a site difficult to navigate when there are too many choices. For instance, my site has a section www.elimeyer.com/portfolio , within that, I have vehicular design, art, photography, and web development. This page was done using the default template. The image from each child page is used as an icon, and the title and description are listed beside it. Most subsequent child pages can have children of their own, depending on their template. For instance, the "download page" template's children are actually files with text descriptions. A slide show, which is best for photos (imagine that?) has photos as children but can not have child pages. Am I making any sense? My old projects at photography.edu were given the "default" template when the site was switched over. They appeared to only have one image. The catch is that default pages only can contain one image and text. When I switched the template (in the advanced menu) to "slide show," all the original photos became available again.

Well it's getting late.

Eli

The problem with older English teachers is that the Education system revolves around testing and has only recently started teaching English for anything other than passing tests! The result is that many English teachers can bearly understand English unless it's written down. (Remember this next time you hear about mandatory testing as part of Education reform.)
that happen at these schools and I knew missing first hour could lead to a complete disaster!) so I told him I would have to talk about it with the guy I switch schools with (this was true).

Takeda Shingen (1521-1573), was a 16th century warlord of Yamanashi Prefecture (then called Kai.) His father was Takeda Nobutora, head of the powerful Takeda clan. Nobutora learned of his first-born son's birth upon returning home from a successful battle. Nobutora named him Takeda Katsuchiyo ("Katsuchiyo" can be translated as '1000 victories in succession' or 'Victory forever.') He later changed his name (not an uncommon practice in Japanese history) to Harunobu and then to Shingen (as he is best known today.)

Shingen was not just another warlord. He united (conquered) a large part of Japan. His abilities as a general are somewhat legendary and he repeatedly engaged in battle with several other famed warlords. Tokugawa Ieyasu (who later founded the Tokugawa Shogunate) barely escaped one such engagement alive! Many historians think Takeda Shingen might have become Shogun had he not died while pursuing Tokugawa.
However, Shingen's military prowess is not the only thing that people admire him for. Shingen focused much on domestic issues.
Most notably was the construction of the riverbank along the Fuji River.
He set up a system of tax payment allowing his subjects to pay in various forms.

The Takeda clan had been powerful in Yamanashi (Kai) since the 12th century

Here is the place where you can put stuff, write stuff, or do whatever you may desire. There is no visible link from the homepage so people need to know the direct address.

www.elimeyer.com/josh

This page will have text (click edit to edit) and one image (click link to upload.) To change the existing image, click on it and follow the buttons. I made it so you don't have the elimeyer.com header however it makes your pages look a little bland. If you make a header graphic, you can email it to me and I will add it to the top of your page, with links to all your sub-pages. Your site doesn't have nav buttons either, until I build you a custom header your guests will need to know how to use their "back" arrow.

you can send people directly to your photos at:
www.elimeyer.com/josh/photos
Your photo page can contain text and multiple images.

Let me know how it goes, I'm sure John (the God of Invisible Gold and former college roommate) would love to hear your how your experiences as a new/dumb user are.

Enjoy, Eli
